As a parent, I believe that being joyful and purposeful is the key to creating lasting memories with our children. It's not just about spending time with them, but also about making the most of that time and being present in the moment.
One of the things that I prioritized was spending quality time with my children. I made it a point to plan activities and trips that we could do together, that didn’t involve spending a lot of money. I believe that the memories we make together are priceless and will stay with them for a lifetime.
Here are 10 tips that have worked (and still does work) for me in creating joyful and purposeful memories with my children, no matter what their age:
Hug Them Every Day and Mean It:
There's nothing like a warm hug to let our children know how much we love them.
Leave Them Special Notes:
Little surprises can make a big impact. I left notes in their lunch boxes, on their pillows, or in their school bags to let them know I'm thinking of them.
Themed Dinner Nights:
We loved to mix things up and have dinner with a theme. We might choose a country and decorate the table accordingly, or have a music-themed dinner with songs playing in the background.
Date Nights:
Spending one-on-one time with each child was important to me. I planned special dates where we could do something they enjoyed and create memories together.
Weekend Activity in the Great Outdoors:
We loved to get out in nature and explore. Whether it's hiking, body boarding, or cycling, we always had a great time together.
Movie and Snuggle Night all in Your Bed:
Cozying up together with a good movie is a great way to relax and spend time together.
Surprise Trips:
Adventure holidays were always a hit with my kids. I would surprise them with a trip to a new place and explored the side streets, museums, castles etc. together and had fun getting lost!
Taking Up a New Class Together:
Trying something new as a family is a great way to bond and learn together. We've taken classes in boxing, archery, self-defense, and cooking.
Making Them a 'Compliment Jar':
It's important to me that my children feel loved and valued. We made a jar filled with notes that highlight their strengths and talents.
Making Hot Chocolate and Going to the Beach to Watch the Sunset:
Simple moments can be the most memorable. We loved to make hot chocolate and watch the sunset together at the beach.
Becoming a joyful and purposeful parent is about being intentional in the time we spend with our children. By prioritizing quality time together and creating meaningful experiences, we can make lasting memories that our children will cherish for a lifetime.
